Golfers do well at Publinks Tourney

Iowa State men¡s golfer Rodney Hamblin, a native of St. Paul, Minn., fired rounds of 70 and 68 for a 138 total in the stroke play portion of the United States Amateur Publinks Tournament at the Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio on Tuesday.

Hamblin tied for second with two other players and earned the number two seat going into the match portion of the tournament Wednesday where he was eliminated. Hamblin lost his first round match to Clay Ogden by one stroke.

Meanwhile, women¡s team golfer Christi Athas, a native of Eldora, Iowa, fired rounds of 77 and 75 for a 152 total in the stroke play portion of the Women’s Amateur Publinks Tournament Tuesday at the Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo.

Athas earned the right to move on to match play after tying for 58th place. She defeated Jackie Beers Wednesday to advance to the next round of 32 golfers.
