“I hate to see him go. He added some character to the team.”

Aaron Agnew, freshman center for the men’s basketball team, has announced his intent to transfer from Iowa State to pursue his basketball career at another university.

“I feel it is in my best interests to find a school that will provide me a better opportunity to play in a half-court style and allow me more playing time,” Agnew said in a statement.

“Aaron is a wonderful student-athlete, and I have enjoyed coaching him,” said head coach Wayne Morganin a statement. “Unfortunately, to maximize his potential for success in his college career, it has become evident he needs to find a system that would be better suited for his size.”

Agnew saw very little action last season, only appearing in nine games.

Dustin Streff, junior forward on the team, said he is disappointed to see Agnew leave.

“I hate to see him go,” Streff said. “He added some character to the team.”

Despite his good character, Streff felt it was indeed in his teammate’s best interests to play somewhere better suited to his style.

“We’re a run and gun team. His body style and the way he plays, it’s just not the way Iowa State plays,” he said.

Agnew and Morgan could not be reached for further comment.
