An armed robbery occurred Tuesday night at Schilleter Village. The suspect, who has yet to be apprehended, entered an apartment in Building 32 through the unlocked front door, took a bank card and electronic equipment and left without harming the resident. The incident was reported to ISU Police at 9:42 p.m.

Rob Bowers, program manager for public safety, said the suspect walked into the apartment while the resident was checking on his son in a back bedroom.

Bowers said the resident heard the door open, but did not think much of it because he thought it was his wife returning from shopping.

“He turned around, and there was a man standing there with a gun,” Bowers said.

He said the suspect asked for cash, but the resident had none. The suspect then took the resident’s bank card and forced him to write down his personal identification number.

“The suspect continued to look around and took a laptop computer and a video camera and then left on foot,” Bowers said.

He declined to comment on the chances of the suspect being apprehended or the status of the investigation.

The victim’s name was not released by police.

The suspect is described as a college-aged male, approximately 6-feet-tall, with a thin build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing baggy pants and a dark shirt.

Bowers said the suspect could face a robbery charge.

According to Iowa Code, suspects can be charged with first degree robbery, a class “B” felony, if during the incident they are armed with a dangerous weapon, attempt to inflict serious injury or succeed in inflicting serious injury. The punishment for a class “B” felony is imprisonment for up to 25 years.
