Head men’s basketball coach Wayne Morgan announced Monday he has promoted assistant coach Damon Archibald to the position of associate head coach.

“I am flattered and humbled to have this opportunity,” Archibald said in a statement. “However, I am more excited about being associated with one of the rising programs and hottest coaches in the country. This was a perfect Father’s Day gift.”

“I think Damon has done an excellent job for us,” Morgan said in his announcement. “He has demonstrated that he has the maturity and acumen to be a successful head coach.”

“We are extremely pleased he will be continuing his coaching career at Iowa State.”

Archibald will be in his third season as a part of the men’s basketball program after assisting at the University of Southern California from 2000-2003.

Morgan and Archibald were unavailable for further comment.
