Habitour 9, an event featuring a 3-mile walk and 8 to 80 miles of bike routes, is being sponsored by various businesses and residents from Story, Hamilton and Hardin counties, June 18 in Story City in support of Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa Inc. The hope is to raise money build a house in Ames.

Entry fees for individuals are $25 if registered before the event and $35 if registered on-site. For families, the fee is $40 and $50, respectively.

Walkers and riders will begin the event at St. Petri Lutheran Church, 804 Grand Ave, and finish at the Story City Park. The Pork Producers and Farm Bureaus of Story and Hamilton counties are donating lunch at the conclusion of the event in the park.

Check-in for riders is 7:30 a.m., and walkers should arrive at 9 a.m. Participants must sign a waiver on registration forms to allow photo rights, as well as releasing Habitat for Humanity from injury responsibilities.

Angeanette Perkins, director of Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa Inc., said the need for participants is great.

“Habitat for Humanity is depending on many people to help us make affordable housing in central Iowa a reality,” she said.

Though the cost of a new house is $75,000, the group is hoping to raise $25,000 from their biggest fundraiser of the year. They expect 150-250 participants to join in to pay for housing materials.

Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa Inc., is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry seeking to eliminate poverty housing, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

For further information, prospective participants can call 232-4722, or the organization’s Web site at www.hfhci.org.
