Robbery at Cocost, no suspects named

A robbery occurred at the Chinese restaurant Cocost Express Cuisine, 114 Welch Ave., after the business closed Monday night. Police officers said there were no signs of forced entry, and the theft was discovered shortly before police were contacted at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“It looks like somebody entered from an adjoining business and took some money and some alcoholic beverages,” said Ames Police Investigations Sgt. Brian Braymen.

Police declined to release the exact amount taken, but Braymen said it had been around $500, in addition to two bottles of wine. He said The Pita Pit, 114 Welch Ave., was the probable point of entry.

According to the City Clerk’s Office, Cocost does not have a liquor license.

Lynn Lloyd, property manager for 114 Welch Ave., said a hallway leads from The Pita Pit to Cocost.

“The both share the same back exit,” she said.

In a telephone interview Tuesday night, Lloyd said she had not been informed of the robbery.

“There are no suspects or witnesses at this time,” Braymen said.

He said chances of a suspect being apprehended are not high.

Joe Chang, owner of Cocost, refused to comment.
