Robinette’s career at Iowa State ends
May 25, 2005
Katie Robinette’s basketball career at Iowa State is over.
The senior forward’s bid for an additional year of eligibility was denied in a vote by the Big 12 Conference’s faculty athletics representatives at the league’s spring meeting Tuesday.
“Obviously, we are disappointed in the decision,” said Calli Sanders, ISU senior associate athletics director in a release.
“We presented our case to the faculty athletics representatives, but their decision was ultimately out of our hands.”
“I’m very disappointed,” Robinette said in the release. “So many people put in a lot of time and work into helping me with the appeal and I appreciate it. I was really looking forward to another season as a Cyclone, and I wish the team and staff nothing but the best.”
Robinette transferred to Iowa State from Nebraska after her freshman season causing her to lose a year of eligibility.
The Big 12 has a rule in place saying student-athletes who transfer within the conference cannot use a redshirt season while sitting out for the NCAA-mandated “year in residence” for transfers. This rule applies to all student-athletes.
Robinette also sat out the fall semester after giving birth to her son in October 2003. She played three semesters with the Cyclones.
