In this administration’s last meeting of the school year, the Government of the Student Body accepted a new contract with and gave funds to the ISU Men’s Ice Hockey Club on Wednesday.

Under the new contract passed by the senate, the hockey club is required to pay off its debt within the next two years — the same time frame spelled out in the current contract.

Although the club received nearly $40,000 from GSB’s Student Discretionary Account to help with the loss of revenue incurred when a generator that cooled the old ice arena broke down for three weeks — making the club unable to getrevenue by playing games — the club still owes GSB $10,000.

Scott Hagen, president of the hockey club, said he and the club were content with the contract reached with GSB.

He said the club should have its debt paid off by the end of next year.

The club received even more funding during the meeting through Regular Allocations. In a vote of 29 to 0, senators agreed to give the club $10,000 to help it pay for ice time, for which the club spends $27,000 annually.

The regular allocations and the contract were passed with no debate from the senate.

Henry Alliger, GSB speaker of the senate, said during the meeting that the regular allocations for the club should be passed with little debate.

“This is $15,000 below their request,” Alliger said.

Dan Becker, GSB treasurer, also stood up during the meeting and said no one seemed to have any problems with the contract so it should pass.

“The team thinks it’s a good thing, Finance Committee thinks it’s a good thing; we have worked long and hard on it,” Becker said. “The university has not seen anything wrong with it.”

Kristi Kramer, GSB Finance Committee director, said she was pleased with the effort the Finance Committee put in to the regular allocation process.

“I feel extremely pleased with the process now that it is coming to an end,” she said. “I hope that student organizations are happy with what happened with the allocation process.”

Wednesday night’s meeting was the last for this year’s GSB senate, as newly elected senators will begin a new session next Wednesday, following inauguration Monday.
