LETTER: ISU Spring Break came a week early
March 25, 2005
I am writing in regards of Spring Break this year. I think the administration did an unsatisfactory job in planning the break because of the timing of Easter weekend.
I could understand having the break when we did if Easter was in April, but not when it is back-to-back weekends. Students are not going to get hostile if break is not exactly halfway through the semester. They will be upset though because now they have to make another trip home, to a family they just saw five days ago.
This action causes increased risks for car crashes and the cost of gas, now over $2 a gallon, makes for a pricey commute. But hey, if tuition can increase 111.7 percent over 10 years, we can easily pony up the dough for an extra trip home, right? Not really.
Most out-of-staters, international students and others who cannot go home are out of luck. Dye your eggs and eat jelly beans alone, no Easter Bunny this year.
Having Spring Break last week is like having Thanksgiving Break in October. Other schools do it this week; why can’t we?
