LETTER: GSB choice matters for ISU students
March 4, 2005
Does it matter to you who the executives of your Government of the Student Body are? I hope it does. But honestly, it didn’t to me until last March, when I became a part of the group representing the voice of every student on this campus.
Before, like many students I know, I thought of GSB as a faceless group of people handing out money to student groups and arbitrarily deciding to stiff someone every now and again just so people knew who was in charge.
In the last year, I have realized the active role GSB can play in the Ames community and in the lives of students — if the right personalities are in the drivers seats. Our executive duo must have uplifting attitudes and strong characters to address unforeseen issues that may come up, e.g. Veishea.
I believe a creative and pro-active approach to GSB is needed to step up to the plate on behalf of students’ values to be their voice, even when someone higher up tells them that voice is not as important.
I trust Angela Groh and Chris Deal’s vision, and will be voting for them in the GSB election Monday and Tuesday.
