LETTER: Save the beer! Save the M-Shop!
March 29, 2005
As a dedicated student and faithful customer, I find it morally remiss to close down services at my beloved Maintenance Shop.
Without its doors open, I’ll find myself drowning in the obese high school cafeteria known as the Memorial Union commons. The M-Shop a relaxed lounge-style dining area that’s just a leap away from the cafeteria. It has dim lighting, good eats, great tunes, and — let’s not forget — beer.
Beer doesn’t discriminate.
It won’t kill Veishea if things get a bit rowdy. It won’t nag at you to change the channel. It won’t cut all the good mechanical engineering technology electives. It won’t even close the doors of a beloved campus dining establishment.
This is because it knows only one thing: that it wants you to befriend it and drink as much as your brain or the law will allow.
As Iowa State’s leading legal consumer of beer before noon here on campus, I find it my obligation to plead that you leave my watering hole open for lunch. Every Monday and Wednesday I find myself in the comfort of Kansas City’s finest, Boulevard Wheat. I treasure these moments between 11 a.m. and noon, where I can work on my buzz while trying to wash down some physics, and every delicious drop makes my afternoon classes just a little bit sweeter. Don’t let our only decent on-campus eatery go down the crapper. Save the M-Shop’s lunch services. If not for me, at least do it for the beer.
