LETTER: Get on the wagon for April 1, 2 and 3
March 21, 2005
Center For Addictions Recovery Inc. is issuing a challenge to the residents of Story County. April is the 19th-annual celebration of Alcohol Awareness month, observed throughout the United States.
Therefore, CFARI’s staff and Advisory Board members challenge all ISU students, faculty and staff to make a commitment to yourselves, your school and your community not to use any alcohol during the weekend, April 1, 2 and 3.
By engaging in three alcohol-free days, we can raise public awareness about the use of alcohol and how it affects individuals, families, schools and communities. We can also use it as an opportunity to remind ourselves and everyone else that we can all have fun and enjoy life without the use of alcohol.
So, the challenge is this: Abstain from drinking any alcohol on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 1, 2 and 3. We hope you will make this commitment.
If you do and you experience difficulty or discomfort during this 72-hour experiment, you are urged to contact Center For Addictions Recovery Inc. and come in for a free alcohol screening to help you determine if you have a drinking problem and what you can do about it if you do.
No appointment is necessary. Just stop in to CFARI, 1619 S. High Ave. in Ames on April 7 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Ask for a free alcohol screening, which will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Everyone is welcome. Free screenings; free information for yourself, family and friends; free refreshments; and a chance to talk to a substance abuse counselor about your drinking or the drinking of someone you care about.
ÿAt CFARI, we would love to hear about your Alcohol Free Weekend experiences. What did you do instead of drink? What did you learn about yourself and others? Does this change your views about alcohol?
