LETTER: Fair-weather fans do not represent all
March 10, 2005
I for one feel sorry for Grant Wall, (“Iowa fans: It’s time to fall off the high horse,” March 9) because his roommate is one of “those” Hawkeye fans, and yes, he should get off his high horse.
To clarify, one of “those” Hawkeye fans are the ones who cheer the Hawks on when they win and ask for the coach’s head if they lose. Those types of Hawk fans root for teams like Florida State or Michigan when the going gets tough. True Hawkeye fans hate that type of fan.
I do have to agree, though; as for men’s basketball, I would not ride a pack mule into Chicago to cheer on the Hawks I would rather pay Iowa State some respect and travel to Kansas City and cheer on the Cyclones. But, as for football, I will ride that high horse into Pasadena. Every true, diehard fan of the Hawks will join me.
To tell diehard fans to get off their high horse is a little too far. As for Wall’s roommate, I would suggest that he go back in time, because there have been many other plays in college football history better than the Tate-Holloway pass. Just always remember that there are two types of fans — there are “those” fans, and there are the diehard fans.
