LETTER: Steel Bridge team felt Hilton magic
March 9, 2005
I want to take the time and congratulate the ISU Steel Bridge team.
During the weekend it placed third, second out of actual contending teams, in the regional competition held at Iowa State’s own Hilton Coliseum. Although apparently not large-scale enough to dent the Daily’s own paper through all of the platitudinous Government of the Student Body coverage, the competition was largely entertaining.
It was simply awesome to see the ISU faithful there cheering on the team when no other school there had such a following. The roar was overwhelming for there not being a significant basketball game.
To top it off, there was even the nail-biting controversy as Iowa State’s team was almost not allowed to continue on because of certain questions concerning the bridge while weight was placed on it. Because of provocative debating, however, the team was allowed to continue and win itself a spot in the national competition Memorial Day weekend.
I wish the Steel Bridge team the best of luck as they work to perform well once again at Nationals.
