LETTER: Veishea riot causes not found in survey
February 7, 2005
The “Free Sandwiches” bill approved by GSB is a waste of $1,037. There are no underlying causes to the 2004 Veishea riots. Rioting is seen as a big Veishea joke because of the past riots that have taken place. That Veishea was made dry only gave people a rule to break and made it more exciting to drink during that weekend.
The only way to keep people from getting out of control is to make Veishea a weekend with lax drinking regulations, effectively taking away the thrill of mobbing Welch Avenue.
We don’t have riots the other 51 weeks in the year, and I think that says something.
