Iowa State track sent part of its team to Cedar Falls this weekend for the UNI-Dome Open, and the portion of the team that went jumped its way to solid showings.

Senior Daniel Kaczmarczyk won the men’s long jump with a distance of 23 feet, 11 inches while junior Isi Oamen finished third with a jump of 22-10.

“[Kaczmarczyk] really picked some things up out there,” said men’s coach Steve Lynn. “I think he is more ready for the Big 12 now.”

Junior April Fabert won the women’s high jump with a height of 5-5, and teammate Leah Wagner finished third.

Women’s assistant coach Scott Roberts said he was happy with his team’s performance this weekend.

Weight throwers Tony Stewart and Kendall Fogle finished second and third, respectively, in the men’s weight throw.

Fogle’s distance of 57-2 was a season best.

“Tony and Kendall were trying to get used to a new 35-pound weight that they will be using,” Lynn said. “I think they are better prepared for the conference meet now.”

Tamela Jadin finished second in the women’s pole vault with a season-best 11-0.

Sprinters also placed well for Iowa State on Friday, with Priya Hoze finishing second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.76 seconds.

“Priya darn near won this race,” Roberts said. “It was good to see her run hard and finish well. She also did a good job in the long jump.”

Hoze finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 17-8.

Senior Ardith Johnson also finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01 seconds.

Lynn said this event was only for people who needed more preparation for the conference meet.

“This meet was all about fine-tuning people for the big show,” Roberts said.

“I think the people that went got a lot more confidence and improved in their events.”

The Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships are next weekend in Lincoln, Neb.

“It will be a tough meet,” Lynn said. “We will just have to try to finish in the top three as much as possible, and try to get points.

“If we have a great meet, I think we can finish in the top half of the conference.”
