LETTER: Recognize greeks’ good deeds, too
February 10, 2005
Throughout each year, the greek system at Iowa State raises thousands of dollars in philanthropic efforts, celebrates traditions embraced by alumni and maintains a grade point average above that of the average undergraduate, (“Greek houses, residence halls see lower GPAs,” Feb. 8). But do these efforts see publicity? No. It is an unfailing characteristic of the Daily that positive attributes of the greek system receive no recognition, while in the blink of an eye you jump at the chance to ridicule it for having a GPA drop a mere “one hundredth of a point.” Perhaps rather than focusing on the greek system, it would be beneficial to look into the drop in the all-university GPA and determine how to raise it to the status of the all-Greek
