LETTER: Alliger will preserve small student clubs
February 23, 2005
I listened to Henry Alliger speak the other day, and one of his topics addressed the university’s ad hoc committee on clubs. The other campaigns have not said anything on this topic, and I am curious what their stances are.
I know when I came to Iowa State, I was really nervous about meeting people, so I looked into joining clubs. I found that there is a club for basically everything you can imagine, making it easy for me to find something I could get involved in. If this committee has its way, this will not be the case because many clubs will no longer exist.
This seems like an issue that candidates for Government of the Student Body president and vice president should be talking about. Alliger has said he would do everything in his power to stop this from happening. I believe him because of his slate’s experience, networking and knowledge of how these things work it is the best hope for smaller clubs and organizations to survive. I will be voting for Alliger/Walter on March 7 and 8, and I believe other club members should do the same.
