LETTER: Riot, aftermath only show immaturity

Why is it that there are students still bitter about last year’s Veishea riot and the way it was handled? What ever happened to people who actually take responsibility for their own immature actions? It was immaturity that caused those events to happen, not over zealous police officers. Copyworks had thousands of dollars worth of damage done to it when a sign went flying through the window. And that was the police officers’ fault? Come on.

People wonder why a new keg ordinance is being proposed; look at the irresponsibility and you’ll know why. I am an ISU student who fully supports the new keg ordinance.

The Government of the Student Body is “urgently” trying to pass a resolution in disagreement with it. Why? Is it because most of the “senators” in the GSB frequently visit these keggers? That’s the only reason I can think of.

Students want to have fun the way they want to have fun, and they do not want their mommies and daddies or anyone else telling them how they should act. The voice I hear from many in the student body is, “I want to be as immature and irresponsible as I can before I half-heartedly step into the ‘real world.'”

It is time for students to begin taking responsibility for their actions. Show the world that the caliber of the students at this incredible university is that of responsible human beings who are well equipped to make a change in this world.
