LETTER: Alliger/Walter will bring Center to life
February 23, 2005
Thank you Henry Alliger and Sarah Walter for the Multicultural Center.
For the last 20-some years, there has been talk about a Multicultural Center at Iowa State, so why are things rolling now, instead of three years ago? Because someone finally stopped, listened to the students and spoke up.
Last fall, the director of diversity, Sarah Walter, had an open forum for multicultural students. There she asked, “What are the three most important things that you want to see change or happen at ISU?”
My first answer was that I wanted a multicultural center on campus, and I wanted to know why this need had been pushed aside for so long. Although Walter has yet to find reasons why the need for a Multicultural Center is being addressed so late in the game, she has coordinated what I call a collective motion of the ISU community.
Director Walter utilized her networking skills and passion for student needs to develop a common goal and a common voice of the ISU community. I want to thank Walter for her efforts to develop a Multicultural Center on campus, and I want to remind you to vote for Alliger and Walter on March 7th and 8 for Government of the Student Body president and vice president.
