LETTER: Hayek and Paulson care about students
February 18, 2005
Two humble young men, Mitch Hayek and Dustin Paulson, have taken this enormous and noble task of running for GSB upon themselves, without expecting anyone else to do the arduous work for them. Both Mitch and Dustin come to the election scene with hearts that care deeply about Iowa State and the issues that are affecting its students.
Mitch is a dedicated and self-motivated proprietor who firmly takes the initiative when it comes to solving problems. He recently served on a task force to determine the fate of the Fresh Start program at Iowa State. Through this, as the president of Maple Hall, he was able to provide valuable insight to the Department of Residence on how to make housing options most conducive to every student’s needs. Dustin has served on the Maple Hall Council executive board, and has been a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Their platform contains a diverse set of issues that are based around the importance of communication.
This includes creating a press secretary position within the cabinet that will help GSB better respond to questions and concerns of students through the Daily as well as holding town meetings to allow students to voice those concerns.
An additional plan they have involves establishing a system so that GSB can help to fund CyRide and minimize the route cuts that may occur.
Both Mitch and Dustin have had experiences of living in the residence halls, being a part of the greek community and participating in learning communities, all of which will greatly enhance their ability to lead the student body.
I cannot think of two better representatives for the people of Iowa State than Mitch Hayek and Dustin Paulson. Vote Hayek and Paulson on March 7 and 8 to bring a breath of fresh air to GSB.
