LETTER: Alliger/Walter plan bad for students
February 21, 2005
In Campaign 2005 spirit, I would like to bring attention to some issues that I feel are important for students to hear. Students should be the main priority for every campaign, yet only one wishes to help the student body.
I serve as the director of student affairs on the executive cabinet for the Government of the Student Body, and in this position, I serve on many committees, including Student Health, Student Health Insurance and the ISU Trademark Committee.
Although many students are unaware of the responsibilities each cabinet member has, they are affected daily by the projects, meetings and committees we develop and work on. Under Henry Alliger and Sarah Walter, some very crucial cabinet positions would be cut to “simplify” our student government. We would lose our director of student affairs, director of academic affairs, director of student projects and many other important positions. Every committee, project and goal we have developed will no longer be a part of GSB, and the students will no longer be heard under this leadership. The harms of this are unimaginable, and it gives more direct power to the two executives.
Angela Groh and Chris Deal see the work that each cabinet member does for the student body and realize the impact the student voice has. They will maintain participation in important student issues so we are truly represented. They have worked hard for the students, developing their own projects and goals and helping others do the same (go to www.thegrohdeal.com). With all of their accomplishments to look at, the most important thing to focus on is the student voice. Groh and Deal will not cut these essential positions from the cabinet, will continue to support and maintain student ideals and will truly be the best representatives of our campus. So please, elect the students who are here to serve you, not the ones here to limit your opportunities and voices. Vote for Angela Groh and Chris Deal on March 7 and 8.
