LETTER: Hayek and Paulson have outside view

Mitch Hayek and I decided to run for president and vice president of the Government of the Student Body a few weeks ago. Why? Because we feel we can make positive changes to GSB.

Sure, we may not have the experience the other candidates have, but that is not a disadvantage for us. As ordinary students looking to do extraordinary things, we feel we can bring a new perspective to GSB.

We plan to put the budget on the Web site, allowing any student to access it at any time. This provides students a way to check how their student fees are being allocated.

Also, Hayek and I feel clubs should not have specifications on the GSB money they receive. We feel clubs will be responsible enough to spend that money wisely.

For this, Hayek and I would only ask for a semester summary of how the funds are used. We would like to simplify the process by which clubs get funds, which would be a relief to many clubs.

Hayek and I feel communication is key to a successful student government. We would set up town-hall meetings to discuss ideas and issues and plan to do so during our campaign. Hayek and I realize that the 25,000 students at this great university may have ideas we haven’t thought about.

Lastly, we would like to thank everyone who signed our petition to be on the ballot, as well as the hard-working people who helped the last few days; we very much appreciate all the moral support we have received.

Don’t forget to vote on March 7 and 8. We would be honored to receive your vote.
