An accident involving two cars at Beach Avenue and Lincoln Way sent two people to the hospital late Tuesday afternoon.

A green Pontiac Grand Am driven by Andrea Holst was driving eastbound on Lincoln Way when it ran a stop light and collided with a gray Saturn traveling northbound on Beach Avenue, police said.

The Saturn was occupied by four people.

The driver, Cassidy Hiemer, freshman in early childhood education, was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center by ambulance. Hiemer could not be reached for comment.

Two people in the Saturn were able to walk away from the accident unharmed.

A small group gathered around the Saturn before rescue vehicles arrived. Soon after, a backboard was strapped to Hiemer by paramedics.

Traffic was routed around the accident, slowing motorists near the intersection.

“A nice day like this, people seem to like to go a lot faster,” said officer Jeff Barnes of the Ames Police Department.
