LETTER: Magill: Right Daily: Wrong

I just wanted to voice my support for Sophia Magill and her decision to veto the ISPIRG bill, and, in a larger sense, her ability as a leader on this campus. I’ll wager the Daily editorial board disagrees with this opinion.

Apparently, the larger part of what the editorial board calls “leadership” means abandoning all notions of strength, ironically advocating the exact antithesis of what the editorial board now wishes to advance.

Meanwhile, Magill has demonstrated time and again a capacity for standing up to ludicrous opposition (like the Daily’s and GSB senate’s own blunders concerning Ames’ no smoking ordinance/ISPIRG). While the editorial board suggests a need for consensus among the senate and executive in lieu of real leadership, Magill continues to lead with example and integrity.

Thanks, Sophia, for taking my opinion — and those of others — into consideration and then forming a stance of your own. Continue to communicate with the students and lead with strength.
