This Wednesday, the GSB has an opportunity to positively impact the students of Iowa State University and the citizens of Iowa by funding Iowa Student PIRG. As a professor, I’ve witnessed how much PIRG volunteers learn from their activities, the significant impact their efforts have and the great potential for social change they demonstrate.

The members of Iowa Student PIRG’s New Voters Project made a huge difference in the recent election, more than doubling the turnout in the university-area precincts.

Not only was voter turnout higher because of NVP, but also the volunteers learned skills that will serve them in the future: advocacy, organizing, communication, development and public relations.

Iowa State PIRG needs funding so its members will continue to benefit the university and our state in both the short and long terms. We will all profit by supporting Iowa State PIRG.
