LETTER: U.S. chose poorly on Election Day
November 4, 2004
I don’t think it is possible for me to feel any more confused and alienated than I do today. It seemed so clear to me what was important for our country was to stay strong and be proud of who we are and all of our freedoms.
But yesterday has made me realize that I am more alone than I thought. ‘Where am I?’ I ask myself today … I am in a country that chooses to believe that homosexual couples are more vile than the idea of war. I am in a country that chooses to believe that keeping jobs here at home is less important than the almighty dollar. I am in a country that believes women don’t have the right to choose. The list goes on.
Should I have woken up today and felt safer? I don’t.
America, I am deeply saddened by your choice. It wasn’t mine.
