Cyclone volleyball falls to No. 11 Texas, ends season with one conference win

In its second-to-last match of the season, the ISU volleyball squad couldn’t contain No. 11 Texas and dropped three consecutive games at Hilton Coliseum.

With the win over Iowa State on Nov. 21, the Longhorns jumped to 23-3 on the year and 15-3 in Big 12 play.

Texas, which boasts the fourth-tallest team in the nation, overwhelmed the Cyclones with its height advantage and a .385 hitting percentage, while Iowa State ended with a .000 percentage.

“Texas is a great team, and we just couldn’t get it to click. Both times we’ve played them they’ve just had us right where they wanted us,” said ISU head coach Linda Crum.

Texas’ hits limited ISU diggers to only 23 saves on the night. Numerous hitting errors also led to Iowa State’s loss.

“We had 26 hitting errors, which is saying we almost gave them a whole game for free,” Crum said.

Nicole Lorenzen led Iowa State with seven kills, trailed by Katie Jessen with six.

Setter Amanda Craig managed 18 assists, and senior Brittany Dalager led with nine digs in her final home match.

Junior hitter Katie Kruenegel said the team didn’t carry over its consistency from practice to the games.

“We know we can do great things; we just need to relax,” she said.

Iowa State dropped its final match on the road at Colorado on Wednesday.

The Buffaloes swept Iowa State in three, capping Iowa State’s record at 8-21 overall and 1-20 in the Big 12.

In the final match of her collegiate career, Dalager led the squad with 11 kills and 14 digs, topping both categories. Jessen and Ashlie McWee each tallied nine kills in the loss.
