LETTER: Brace yourself for Ann Coulter
October 20, 2004
The pretty girls and cops are on her side. She says that God gave us the earth and it’s ours to rape. She refers to women as “the weaker sex,” and to the Democrats as the “American Taliban.”
Who is she? She’s Ann Coulter. When I first heard Coulter was going to be speaking at Iowa State, I decided I needed to do some research. So I spent my afternoon reading nearly every article on Coulter’s Web site and her many intelligent comments, such as “if Gore had been elected president, right now he would just be finding that last lesbian quadriplegic for the Special Forces team.”
I couldn’t help but wonder if Coulter hates her own gender, so I read on.
Coulter goes on to say, “Women are not prevented from doing even things they should be,” and, at this point, I can only dream of what those things might be. But, according to Coulter, one of these things women should be prevented from doing is voting.
One thing I can say for Coulter is that she’s not afraid to speak her mind. She says, “The problem with women voting is that, you know, women have no capacity to understand how money is earned. They have a lot of ideas on how to spend it.”
She speaks of women as if she wasn’t one herself. And at this point, I’m confused.
And while Coulter does seem to admire one woman, Phyllis Schlafley, she does go on to say that, “She’ll never get a Woman of the Year award from ‘Glamour’ magazine or all of these magazines handing out awards to irrelevant feminist harpies.”
As a sandal-wearing-liberal feminist, I think Ann Coulter probably hates me. But that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be allowed to speak her mind.
