Wall’s arraignment set for early June

Assistant Dean of Students Vernon Wall, scheduled for his initial appearance on a drunken driving charge Friday, chose instead to file an appearance brief through his lawyer, Timothy Gartin.

Wall’s first appearance in court will be his preliminary hearing, scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. June 7 at the Story County Courthouse in Nevada.

Wall was charged earlier this month with driving while intoxicated in the area of Lincoln Way and Elwood Drive. He was arrested after failing a breath test which indicated his blood alcohol content was .109 percent.

It was his first charge for drunken driving.

Ames police originally stopped Wall for speeding, but according to police reports, the arresting officer observed Wall had bloodshot and watery eyes and smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle.

At Iowa State, Wall serves as the assistant dean of students and adviser to many student organizations, including Veishea Inc. and the fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. He has worked for Iowa State since 1998.
