LETTER: Dining Services ignores Passover
April 8, 2004
If you’ve eaten at dining services in the past few weeks, you’ve probably noticed that some form of fish is offered on Fridays.
This is done to accommodate Catholics, whose faith prohibits them from eating meat other than fish on Fridays leading up to Easter.
It is great that Dining Services recognizes their religion and provides a fish option for them on Fridays.
However, I was appalled to find that a Jewish friend of mine had to resort to eating salads and Jell-o for dinner, because Dining Services didn’t recognize her religion.
Because of Passover, Jews are not suppose to eat any food products containing yeast during this week. That includes all bread products, noodles and the breading on meats.
Dining Services has provided no alternatives to accommodate Jewish students.
It would really be nice if Iowa State recognized all religions, instead of just a few.
