LETTER: Students ruined Iowa State’s image
April 27, 2004
This is in response to the events that took place April 17 and 18 in Campustown and its surrounding areas.
I was not even in the state of Iowa during the talked about events.
Therefore, I was neither involved nor directly affected by the actions of my fellow classmates.
And yes, I have heard the stories, seen the pictures and watched the videos.
I was disgusted at what I saw — but the worst thing of all was to hear everyone that was there tell me I missed out on a really fun and exciting night.
They were all so excited to be able to tell everyone that their school (Iowa State) got national attention via CNN, MTV and countless numbers of local news stations and newspapers all over the United States.
But the reason the attention was directed toward Iowa State is one of the worst reasons to have the attention.
The people involved destroyed a place where, I am sure, they, other ISU students and visitors enjoy going, being a part of, and just hanging out.
If you want the reputation for destroying others’ property that you use and enjoy for no reason, then good job.
You succeeded.
