The ISU women’s golf team will try to build on its record-breaking performance from its last meet at the Suzie Maxwell Berning Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

The Cyclones shot the second-best score in school history and earned a second-place finish last week at the Mountain View Invitational. The team shot a 54-hole 902, which placed them 11 strokes off the team record. Head coach Julie Manning is confident the success will carry over.

“Right now, we’re playing the best we’ve played all season,” Manning said. “We’ve finally been able to play outside for an extended period of time and have sustained good workouts.”

Manning also credited junior Lisa Meshke as giving the team stability and confidence.

“Having Meshke back out there playing gives us our best possible lineup and great team chemistry,” Manning said.

Meshke suffered an elbow injury in the fall, knocking her out of competition. She has come back strong this spring, earning a 12th-place finish individually at the last meet, shooting 75 in each of the three rounds.

This event, hosted by Oklahoma, is the last tournament before the Cyclones head into the Big 12 tournament. Manning said it is very important to play well the next two meets because the Cyclones need good showings to qualify for the NCAA tournament. However, she said she expects the team to play in a relaxed mode.

“We’re going into these last couple meets looking to make some noise,” she said. “If our confidence holds up and we play to our abilities, we are going to be successful.”
