College merger work groups announced

Members of the 12 work groups that will be assisting the Planning Committee for the Combination of the College of Education and the College of Family and Consumer Sciences were announced Wednesday.

The groups include more than 100 ISU students, faculty, staff, alumni and retired faculty. Members of the planning committee will be in charge of each group.

Susan Carlson, associate provost and committee facilitator, said she had a good response from people who wanted to be part of the decision-making process to combine the two colleges.

“We even had quite a few people we couldn’t accommodate on the work groups,” she said. “When you have so many people interested in helping, you hate to disappoint them. We want to use them in other capacities in the future, though.”

Each work group will make recommendations to the planning committee about its specific area, Carlson said, but final decisions on the college merger will be left up to the planning committee.

The work groups are:

* College Governance Document and Policies

* College Name and Mission

* Communications and Planning

* Culture and Community

* Curricular Issues

* Dean’s Offices: Organization and Operations

* Development and Outreach Issues

* Extension and Outreach

* Process for Selection of New Dean

* Scholarship, Research, Creative Activity and Grant Funding

* Student Services

* Technology
