LETTER: Sadly, Veishea must end: Part II
April 18, 2004
I am so disappointed at this moment. I just drove around a section of city that to me was not Ames, Iowa, but perhaps part of downtown Los Angeles. I heard rumors of tear gas and riot gear, but I did not believe them.
When I did go to see for myself, disbelief and fear were my emotions.
While I realize the light-hearted celebrations I witnessed yesterday have little or no correlation with the destruction I saw early this morning, it seems that the words “Veishea” and “riots” will, unfortunately, be forever linked.
If the inhabitants and guests are unable to behave in a civil manner, which seems to be the case, I believe that Veishea must be either discontinued, or completely restructured.
I would prefer discontinuation, however, because I believe the name Veishea is now forever tainted. It is truly a shame.
