Cyclone softball team aims to end 5-game losing streak
April 13, 2004
The Cyclones have just one more game before they get to come home.
The ISU softball team will wrap up its four-game road trip Wednesday, traveling to Cedar Falls to take on the Northern Iowa Panthers.
In their last meeting, Iowa State defeated the Panthers 8-0 in Ames. The Cyclones are aiming to repeat this feat again.
ISU head coach Ruth Crowe said the fact that the Cyclones shut out Northern Iowa earlier this season isn’t an indication of the Panthers’ ability.
“[The result of the game] wasn’t indicative of where [the Panthers] are,” Crowe said.
The Panthers have lost three of their last four games.
The Cyclones have been in a bit of a downswing themselves, with no wins since their victory over Northern Iowa.
The Cyclones lost both games last Sunday at Oklahoma State. Crowe said the team’s focus is still just coming out trying to be ready to play every game.
“It’s been two steps forward and three steps back,” Crowe said.
The Cyclones hope to overcome their offensive inconsistencies, as they have only scored two runs in their last five games.
The Cyclones are led on offense by senior Julia Lindsey, who has a batting average of .329.
In current season standings, Lindsey is responsible for 28 Cyclone hits and 11 scored runs.
“Julia has been such a good hitter for the Cyclones in the four years she has played and has always been someone the Cyclones could count on offensively,” Crowe said.
Lindsey was successful in the last game against Northern Iowa, knocking four hits. “I always try to hit the ball solid and get two hits each game,” Lindsey said.
Lindsey said the game against the Panthers will be no exception.
“We want to get back on track this week. We’re looking forward to getting some games under our belt,” Crowe said.
Game time is 4 p.m.
