LETTER: Miller/Riggs know power of students

Students don’t have any power. Seriously. How can we get any? We don’t have money, and we don’t have connections. Nobody owes us any favors. The only thing we do have is numbers, and the only way we can make those numbers matter is by getting out and doing something.

The easiest thing to do is vote. But it isn’t easy to make that vote count. Even if every student registered and voted here, we would still only elect two state legislators, who already tend to support higher education. What we need to do is register at home and vote for whomever is going to fund Iowa State.

Drew Miller and Jenn Riggs are the only people I have heard who understand this issue.

They are running for GSB president and vice president because they know how to generate power for students, and how to translate that power into results. Everyone is making promises, but they have the experience and the results to show that they can do this.

Talking to students is all well and good, but when it comes right down to it, I’d rather pay less in tuition than shake someone’s hand.

Vote Miller-Riggs on March 8. You won’t regret it.
