LETTER: Oil executives shape U.S. energy policy
March 2, 2004
I think it is important for everyone to sit down and think about whether having two former heads of oil companies running our country continues to be in our best interests.
While other countries are making moves toward alternative energy usage, we instead continue to support our oil and our energy industries in general.
Take Britain for example, where they are working on putting windmills all along their eastern coast. We all know how windy it is in Iowa; why not capture this free energy?
Instead, we have a president who has lied to our country and occupied a defenseless country to secure access to oil (compare death counts in any of our past wars to the two we fought in Iraq, yes they were quite defenseless).
In our current situation, we are tied to oppressive countries such as Saudi Arabia. And Israel could easily nuke the oil infrastructure in the region should they ever disagree with our policy. Such results would cripple our economy and country.
Rather than put our entire economic sustainability on these countries, we need to make progress of developing alternative energy sources.
