LETTER: Recovery center funds appreciated

Center for Addictions Recovery Inc. was recently notified that the agency has again been recommended to receive Analysis of Social Services Evaluation Team (ASSET) funding for fiscal year 2004-05. The purpose of this letter is to express our gratitude on behalf of our clients for this valuable contribution.

The joint funders of ASSET (City of Ames, Story County, ISU Government of the Student Body and United Way of Story County) join us in partnership to support the services that address our citizens’ most critical needs.

This reflects the value we place on each other. We live in a community that not only cares but also acts to make a difference.

Substance abuse/addiction is a brain disorder that does not discriminate and affects persons of all ages. ISU students are not exempt and pay the high costs of alcohol and drug abuse through impaired school performance, problems with relationships, health issues, depression and other mental health concerns, as well as legal and other social problems. One (or more) out of every 10 students is at risk for having problems with alcohol and/or other drugs. Chances are this will be you or someone you know.

Due in part to GSB funding of ASSET, affordable services are available to the students of Iowa State.

In these difficult economic times, this is an extremely valuable contribution. Our thanks to GSB and to the students of Iowa State for your continued support.

At the center for Addictions Recovery Inc., we celebrate our partnership with ASSET.
