LETTER: Questions when it’s right to take a life
March 10, 2004
The title of David Hanson’s article “Origin of life not based in religion” in the March 9 Daily sums up his point very well.
I agree that the debate of when life begins is not a religious question, but rather a scientific one. While there is still some debate on the issue, even if Congress has made its decision, I am willing to give full human status to the child at the moment of conception.
I agree that abortion “is the premeditated termination to a human life.”
While most anti-abortionists use this as an argument, they leave out a very important and unstated premise — the taking of human life is always wrong.
This statement is often based on religion. I will not start an argument by stating my beliefs, but instead I ask you to think about whether you believe the taking of human life is wrong no matter what the circumstances.
When you answer that, you will have your answer to whether or not abortion is wrong.
