Committee announced for FCS, Education colleges
March 4, 2004
Iowa State’s provost announced 13 names of the 17 members who will serve on the college combination planning committee this fall.
Ben Allen, vice president for academic affairs and provost, released the names after plans to combine the College of Education and the College of Family and Consumer Sciences were announced.
Members of both colleges will be represented, Allen said.
He said the reason for the committee is to address issues raised in the combination.
Choosing a new dean, evaluating governance documents, curriculum and promotion and tenure will all be addressed, said Maurice MacDonald, chairman and professor of human development and family studies. MacDonald was chosen to be on the committee.
He said it is difficult to end a tradition which these two separate colleges have had.
“[I] hope the planning committee can develop some concrete plans and make the best of it right away,” MacDonald said.
He said a deadline for the issues have not been set but expects to see proposals in the late to mid-fall of next year.
