LETTER: Sore losers not acceptable in GSB
March 22, 2004
Last week I attended the Government of the Student Body election results meeting. Going to this meeting, I expected to see people come out elated, and others to come out dejected.
What did happen was totally unacceptable. The GSB president election was a landslide win for Sophia Magill and William Rock. When this was announced, Drew Miller, first runner up, was visibly disturbed — a reaction I believe anyone would fall into.
However, actions outside the Campanile Room were a different story. Miller began to kick over stand-up signs in the hallways and went outside and kicked over one of the concrete trash cans and an ash tray. He was belligerent to me when I asked him to cool off. Miller went into the Union still screaming curses at a concerned constituent.
As a member of the Government of the Student Body representing off-campus students, Miller should be held to a higher standard than some others. A tirade that results in vandalism of the student Union is beyond the scope of reasonable.
