February 19, 2004
The Ames Police Department is searching for a man suspected of robbing a gas station Wednesday morning.
According to police reports, an employee of Kwik Shop, 125 6th St., said a man entered the store at 1:24 a.m. and demanded money.
There was no visible weapon, but the man kept one hand in his pocket and behaved as if he had a handgun, police said. He took an undisclosed amount of money and fled south across 6th Street. The employee reported no injuries.
The investigation is still in progress and there is no specific information about who the suspect is, said Ames Police Department Cmdr. Jim Robinson.
“Right now we are conducting interviews and following up with leads,” he said.
Police described the male suspect as being about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing between 180 and 200 pounds.
At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark stocking cap, dark blue hooded sweatshirt, red sweat pants and white shoes. The age of the suspect is not known.
“The individual did have the stocking cap over his face,” Robinson said.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery or the suspect should contact the Ames Police Department at 239-5133.
