Weather postpones Cyclone wrestling

Thursday afternoon’s snowy surprise left the Nebraska wrestling team stranded in Lincoln, postponing its meet against Iowa State, which had been scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.

Cyclone head coach Bobby Douglas said the cancellation of Thursday’s meet was due entirely to bad weather and sketchy road conditions.

“[Nebraska] called us and told us they had about 10 inches over there and they were concerned about whether they could make it or not,” Douglas said. “It just throws us off of schedule, but we’ll adjust and reschedule when the weather permits us.”

Thursday’s meet would have been Iowa State’s third against a Big 12 team this season. Douglas said the cancellation of the dual did not provide him any sense of relief about facing the second-ranked Cornhuskers.

If anything, Douglas said he is feeling anxiety because, with the Big 12 Conference meet approaching, rescheduling this late in the season becomes a complicated issue.

“I feel that we are slowly getting back to where we want to be,” Douglas said. “But obviously, I don’t ever feel like we’re overprepared, and we certainly weren’t overprepared, but I do feel like we were prepared.”

Douglas said he hopes to reschedule the meet for Feb. 27 or 28.
