LETTER: Daily shows lack of judgment, Part I
February 18, 2004
I want to sincerely thank and commend all the conference organizers, volunteers and attendees that made this year’s Midwest Bisexual, Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Ally College Conference a huge success. As a volunteer and attendee, I had the unique opportunity to meet countless energetic and inspiring BLGTA activists.
I do not wish to diminish my appreciation for Iowa State being such a fabulous host for last weekend’s conference, but I do want to express my disappointment regarding the photo choice on the front page of Monday’s Daily.
This large and central photo not only incorrectly portrays the conference, but it also seems like it was planted to incite backlash from others.
Although I see nothing morally wrong about the kiss, the front-page presentation of the photo misrepresents the purpose and meaningfulness of the conference and the behavior of the conference attendees.
Iowa State Daily editors, you have damaged the BLGTA movement. Daily, I expect more BLGTA support from you.
