People’s Bar and Grill, 2428 Lincoln Way, will turn into the next dating game Thursday.

“Punched Out,” based off of the MTV dating show “Singled Out,” is a joint effort between the Iowa State Daily’s public relations and advertising departments.

The idea was from a larger program called the Get Punched program, said Jami Sonney, senior in pre-advertising and Daily public relations practitioner. The program was created to help monitor “student-friendly” businesses around Ames by having students pick up punch cards at participating businesses and have them punched, she said.

The program will culminate Thursday with “Punched Out,” as four contestants will narrow down a pool of potential partners until they have a date.

Jaydn Bonifas, senior in chemical engineering, said heard about the game through his roommate’s fianc‚.

Rounding out the male half of the participants is Bryan Ollie, senior in sociology.

“I was just messing around to just see what would happen, and I was chosen,” Ollie said.

The females will be represented by Tiffany Lentz, junior in health and human performance, and Megan Petersen, senior in accounting.

“I thought it was a good idea because it’s a good way to meet people,” Petersen said.

Once a potential date shows up at People’s, he or she will fill out a questionnaire which could match up with the participants’ answers, Sonney said. All the participants are then grouped together in one of two large pools based on their sex. Then, the first round begins.

Contestant will choose from different categories, such as Physical Characteristics and Hobbies, Sonney said.

The second round includes questions written and asked by contestants. These questions range from being serious to “crazy,” Bonifas said.

The winner is then chosen based on the three rounds.

Emceeing the event will be Andrea Wilson, senior in graphic design, and ISU alumnus Hiawatha Rutland, a former Cyclone football player.
