Despite the excitement of the Cyclone men’s basketball win Wednesday night over the Hawkeyes and the great effort by our players, I was rather disappointed by the behavior of some of the student fans.

Chanting and yelling is part of the game, but the taunts that were directed at Iowa’s Pierre Pierce were inappropriate and had no place at a basketball game. Regardless of what their judgment may be in regard to Pierce’s actions, repeatedly shouting “rapist” accomplishes nothing other than to reflect badly on ourselves. I hope in the future we can put all of our energy into supporting Iowa State and none into derogatory remarks against the opposing team members.
