LETTER: Canned hunting entirely unethical

I applaud Mr. Fagerlund in his Jan. 21 column “Canned hunting an embarrassment,” for shedding light on the issue of canned hunting.

I am an avid pheasant hunter with a love and reverence for what I consider to be the most beautiful bird in North America. During the opportunities I had this year to hunt, I shot about a dozen pheasants.

Hearing the vice president of the United States was part of the outright slaughter of my beloved quarry saddened my heart.

I think that raising pheasants for hunting can be done right if there is respect for the birds. I do have a problem with the complete lack of respect shown by Mr. Cheney. Maybe I should not expect Mr. Cheney to exemplify a hunter’s ethics when his political/business ethics have been far from exemplary as of late. I will have to do some research; this may have been a Halliburton pheasant farm.
