New UDCC dining option slashes hours due to cuts
January 28, 2004
Clyde’s Sports Club, located in the Union Drive Community Center, will be reducing its hours for the rest of the semester.
The club’s new hours will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
Jon Lewis, director of campus dining, said the department chose to reduce the hours because of budget cuts.
He said the restaurant will remain open only during its high traffic hours in order to cut back on costs.
“We are facing a major financial challenge by balancing the budget,” he said. “We looked at many options to reduce expenses.”
Other cuts in the department’s budget resulted in the closing of Linden Dining Center earlier this year and reduced holiday hours at Hawthorne Market and Cafe.
Lewis said he hopes Clyde’s will be able to expand hours next year.
In hopes of attracting more students, he said the department is looking into buying new equipment, such as an espresso machine.
Although the restaurant will be closed most hours, Lewis said the area will still be available for those who would like to reserve it as a private venue.
