ISU swim team trounces St. Olaf

Competing for the first time in more than a month, the ISU women’s swim team took 14 of the 16 events and recorded its fourth straight win of the season at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., Friday.
The Cyclones defeated the Oles 178-77 and had two multiple-event winners.
One of those winners was senior Petra Plaminkova, who swam to a first-place finish in the 200 and 100 butterfly with times of 2:08.02 and 1:00.45, respectively.
Plaminkova swam the last leg of the victorious 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.72.
Also competing in the relay were Sam Dyshaw, Jenny Lindberg and Kelly Hanus.
Kim Chrun was the other multiple event winner, finishing first in the 200 individual medley (2:13.24) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.53).
Another Cyclone with a strong showing was sophomore Maggie Peterson. Peterson recorded season-best times in the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 1:00.48 and 2:10.63, respectively.
The Cyclones dominated the 1000 freestyle and 200 breaststroke. Chelsey Walden took first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:32.94 and was followed by sophomore Lydia Smirniotis with a time of 10:40.06.
In the 200 breaststroke, Iowa State took the top three spots as Lauren Breunig finished first (2:27.88), Shannon Parker second (2:31.96) and Kim Rogers third (2:34.14).
The ISU divers also competed well.
On the 1-meter board competition, Hillary Nichols placed first with a score of 161.30 and teammate Linda Wagner placed second, scoring 155.75. For the 3-meter competition, Wagner and Nichols switched places, with Wagner taking the top score with 225.50 and Nichols placing second with a score of 209.55.
The Cyclones will return to Big 12 competition this week when they host Kansas. The meet will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Beyer Hall.
